D20 Football: The 2026 UFL Season Is Now a Tabletop Game

Run the 2026 UFL With a Single d20

The 2026 UFL season is mid-flight. DC Defenders are 5-1 and look unstoppable. St. Louis are grinding out close wins behind their defence. Houston are rebuilding from the ground up. The United Bowl is on June 13 at Audi Field.

You can play the rest of the season — or replay the whole thing from Week 1 — in about an evening. One d20 die. One d6 for close finishes. A pencil.

A Different Engine

This pack runs on the D20 Football Engine (Competitive Edition) — not D100, not the QP Football system. Different scoring buckets, different rating tiers, different overtime, different close-game logic.

Each team has three ratings: ATK, DEF, and a Close Game Factor (1–6) that decides who wins the tight ones. Roll 1d20 + Mod per quarter. Look up the result on the UFL Pro Scoring Table — turnover, punt, FG, TD, big-play TD + FG combo, all the way up to a 21-point Historic Quarter. Four quarters per team. Done.

The modifiers are pre-calculated for every one of the 40 regular-season games. You don't do maths during play.

UFL Rules, Not NFL Rules

The UFL doesn't play like the NFL, so the engine doesn't either:

  • 4-Point Field Goals — Any FG of 50+ yards is worth 4. The pack includes a quick d20 sub-roll for distance whenever you score a field goal.
  • Coach's Choice Conversions — After a TD, declare a 1pt kick (auto), a 2pt try (11+ on a d20), or a 3pt try from the 10-yard line (15+).
  • No Ties — UFL games never end in a draw. If you're tied after the Close Finish check, you go to the UFL Shootout — alternating single plays from the 5-yard line, 2 points per score, best of 3 sessions, then sudden death.
  • CGF Close Finish — If the margin is 7 or fewer points after Q4, the trailing team rolls 1d6 against their CGF rating. Pass the check, and you roll 2d6 on a narrative Close Finish Table — drag-route TD, 50-yard bomb, blocked FG, called-back holding, the lot. One last drive, one shot at the win.

Calibrated, Not Just Made Up

The team ratings were tested against the actual mid-season standings using a 50-season Monte Carlo simulation. DC Defenders sim to 8.9-1.1 (actual pace: 8.3-1.7). Houston Gamblers sim to 2.1-7.9 (actual: 3.3-6.7). Average game total: 46.9 points (real UFL: ~44). Every team's simulated record sits within ±1.5 wins of their actual projection through Week 7.

Translation: the league plays like the league. DC are favourites. St. Louis are a real challenger because of their defence and clutch CGF. Houston lose a lot. Surprises happen — but the right teams win more often.
